Volunteer with us

At RAIS, volunteers are central in allowing us to undertake the many important aspects of the work that we do. Whether this is by helping at our drop-ins or helping with administration or IT in our offices, all types of help and support are greatly appreciated.

Providing assistance and support at drop-ins is fundamental to making our clients feel welcome in their new community, especially in helping them:

  • with advocacy and support in dealing with any agencies or organisations such as the Home Office, Migrant Help or the NHS
  • understand and explain to them any correspondence they have received
  • complete any applications or forms, such as eVisas, benefits or housing applications
  • in accompanying roles, such as attending medical appointments or opening new bank accounts
  • with any prospective job or college applications and offering assistance and advice
  • with language translation and assisting them with improved communication of their needs

Volunteers come from a wide range of ages, backgrounds, and life experiences which also brings with it a huge wealth of skills and knowledge. We particularly welcome asylum seekers and refugees who wish to volunteer at RAIS as they have many skills, knowledge and lived experience that could benefit their local communities. We do also welcome those who are improving their English, however, particular roles may require a higher level of English or existing IT or digital skills.

Volunteering with us can also help you to develop your own transferable skills and experience.  If you are interested in volunteering with RAIS and wish to get involved in your community, contact us via our website or email us and we will get in touch with you when any vacancies become available.

We look forward to hearing from you and thank you for your interest in volunteering with RAIS Lancaster.
